Post Treatment Care
Fillings

Upon leaving the office, you have no precautions with your fillings. You can eat and drink normally.

Crowns / Bridges / Veneers

Your crown / bridge / veneer will be done over the course of two appointments. During the first visit, Dr. Burton will prepare your tooth to make room for a temporary crown while your custom restoration is being created in the dental lab. Until your second visit, you should avoid heavy chewing in the area and avoid sticky foods. At your next appointment 1-2 weeks later, Dr. Burton will insert your porcelain restoration and secure it with permanent bonding.  Once the permanent restoration is complete, you can eat / drink normally and begin flossing that area again

After each visit, the nerve inside your tooth may respond by becoming sensitive to cold. This sensitivity usually subsides by itself, but it may take several days. In addition to cold sensitivity, your teeth may detect an extremely small change in your bite. If it feels uncomfortable, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can make an adjustment.

Root Canals

Root Canal Therapy will usually relieve the pain you may have been experiencing, specifically throbbing and hot sensitivity. It is not unusual for the tooth to be tender after a root canal. Dr. Burton will typically prescribe antibiotics and pain medication following a root canal, which should be taken as prescribed. Root Canal Therapy is generally completed in two visits, approximately one week apart. After each visit, we ask you to avoid eating for 45-60 minutes to allow the temporary material to harden, drinking is ok - then you can eat and drink normally.
